​Why a cafeteria plan?

Unlike more standard group insurance plans, a cafeteria plan such as e-volulife can be tailored to fit the individual needs of your staff.

​You decide whether your staff members can choose their covers and how their premiums (plus any profit sharing) will be invested in the investment funds

Based on your pre-set "rules of the game", your staff members:

  • select the covers that appeal to them. They can, for example, assign a higher value to death benefit coverage or to their disability annuity.
  • decide how they want their premiums and any profit sharing invested in the various funds.

For staff members that decide not to hand-pick any options, the default group insurance options will apply. ​​

How does it work?

As an employer, you regularly contribute a fixed sum towards a supplementary pension in the form of group insurance. With e-volulife, you provide your staff members with the opportunity to use a portion of the premiums to fund supplementary benefits such as death benefit coverage or income protection insurance. Your staff members then decide how the premiums (and/or any profit sharing) will be invested based on their own individual preferences. Your role is to determine the options – and the restrictions – included in the cafeteria plan. The rest is up to your staff members.
Branch 21, Branch 23 or both?

Give your staff members the opportunity to invest in Branch 21 or Branch 23 funds. Or select a combination of both:

Branch 21 funds offers​ a guaranteed return on investment. Profit sharing may also be awarded but there is noguarantee.Branch 23 funds contain a mix of shares and/or bonds and/or other asset classes. The return is not guaranteed and will vary based on the performance of the underlying investments.Unique on the market: a combination of both. Invest the premiums in Branch 21 and the profit sharing in Branch 23. With our digital platform, your staff members can easily change the way they want their investments allocated across the different funds.

Higher or lower weighting for covers

If you allow your staff members to choose their supplementary covers, they can – from among your pre-set options – assign a higher or lower weighting to these covers in the cafeteria plan. For example, they can set aside a bigger or smaller share of the budget to increase or decrease their death benefit coverage.

Cash advance

Another option is to allow your staff members to take out a cash advance on their supplementary pension benefits. They can apply a portion of their accrued pension reserves towards buying or remodeling real estate or paying off a mortgage loan, long before they reach retirement age.
